About Yellow Fever
Yellow fever is a potentially life-threatening viral disease found in the tropical regions of Africa and South and Central America. Yellow fever is endemic in the tropical regions of Africa and South America.

Yellow fever is transmitted by the bite of an infected mosquito.

Symptoms:
  • may appear 3 to 6 days after transmission;
  • often include sudden fever, chills, headache, joint and muscle pain, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, backache, nausea and vomiting, exhaustion, weakness and dehydration.

In the most severe cases, the disease can cause shock, internal bleeding, jaundice and organ failure. This occurs in about 15% of those infected and half of them die within 10 to 14 days.

There is no treatment for yellow fever, only supportive care to relieve symptoms.

In Canada, you can only get yellow fever vaccination from a vaccination centre certified by the Public Health Agency of Canada.

Yellow Fever Vaccination
Vaccination is the best way to protect against yellow fever and its complications.

This vaccine is highly recommended for travelers to areas of Africa or South America where the disease is present. Some countries may also require vaccination against yellow fever as a condition of entry.

Yellow fever is an entirely preventable disease. There is a safe and effective vaccine against the disease. In addition to vaccination, mosquito bite prevention measures, such as regular insect repellent or mosquito nets, are also essential for protecting your health when travelling.

Although we offer prompt service for last-minute travellers, it is prudent to book your initial consultation 4-6 weeks before your trip, especially if the trip is rural in nature or in a high-risk area.

According to your health evaluation, La Clinique Santé Voyage is certified to give a certificate of medical contraindication to vaccination or a letter specifying the medical reasons for the exemption request.
